Description

In this video, I’ll walk you through the brand-new proofreading tool available with Apple Intelligence on iOS 18. Whether you’re typing a message, an email, or a note, you can now proofread your text directly from the keyboard and get suggestions for grammar, punctuation, and spelling. I’ll show you step-by-step how to use this feature, how to review suggested changes, and how it can help you improve your writing on your iPhone.

Transcript

There have long been different apps to help you correct your grammar and spelling when you’re writing text and messages on your iPhone. But now, with Apple Intelligence, there’s a brand new proofreading feature built right into the keyboard, meaning anywhere you type text, you can now proofread it and get suggestions to improve it.

Here, I’ve got a message that I’m writing, and as you can tell, I’m deliberately making a few mistakes. Not to worry though, because it’s a great opportunity to test how good this new proofreading tool in Apple Intelligence really is.

Once I’ve finished typing, all I need to do is tap and hold on one of the words, and then drag my selection to highlight the whole message. Remember, this works anywhere you can type on your iPhone, not just in the Messages app.

With the text highlighted, I can either tap straight onto Proofread from the little menu above the keyboard, or I can press the Apple Intelligence button to bring up the full set of writing tools and options. Here again, you’ll see that Proofread option, and when I tap on it, Apple Intelligence will analyse the text and check for any grammar, punctuation, or spelling errors.

Once it’s finished, you’ll see I’ve got four suggestions for changes. Each of these mistakes is highlighted with a blue underline. I can tap on any of them to see why they’ve been flagged – for example, tapping here shows that I’ve missed a full stop, which I noticed earlier. I can navigate through all the corrections, choosing either to accept the changes or revert back to the original text.

I really like how you get an explanation for each change too – it’s a good learning tool, helping you avoid making the same mistakes in the future. When you’re happy with the changes, just press Done, and the corrected message will replace the original one. You can then send it as usual and carry on with your day.
