Description
Ever sent an accidental voice note from Messages on your iPhone? iOS 27 adds a new Show in Text Field setting that lets you control the button next to send, so you can remove it completely or have it type what you say with dictation instead. I’ll show you where to find the setting, what each option does, and how you can still send a voice message whenever you actually want to.

We’ve all done it. You go to write a message to a friend, and before you know it, you’ve accidentally started dictating something and they can hear you rambling on. It’s like the modern-day equivalent of a butt dial in your pocket. Well, iOS 27 has got a built-in fix for that, which will get rid of the accidental voice notes from any of your message threads. Let me show you how it works. And stay with me here, because I’ll show you how you can still send a voice note should you want to later on as well.
And before we get started, if you’re new around here, then hi, my name is Jacob. I’m your friendly Apple expert here on YouTube to help you make the most of your devices. So, if you want loads more quick and short tips just like this one, please do press subscribe.
Okay, I’m going to jump into the Settings app on my iPhone, and then we’re going to scroll down until we find Apps. From Apps, we then need to jump into the Messages options. You can scroll for a while, or you can just tap the letter M on the side to jump straight to the apps beginning with M, and then you can choose Messages from here.
Now, when you’re on the Messages page, near the bottom, there’s an option that says Show in Text Field. Tapping on here gives you three choices. Right now, mine is on Record Audio, which is how you send a voice note to someone. You can change it to Dictation, and that will change your speech into words. Or you can just press None. That’s what I’m going to do.
And now, when I jump back into Messages, you’ll notice that that button is no longer there, right next to the send button. It’s not going to distract me. It’s not going to tempt me. I’m not going to accidentally press it.
And, of course, we can still send a voice message if you want to, and it’s really simple. Tap the plus button next to the text box to open up Messages apps, and then choose Audio from there. Now you can send a message however you like.
And before you go and give this a try and turn that setting off, and I’m sure you’re about to go and do that, please do check out this QuickTip next. And make sure you press subscribe.
