Description
In this video, I dive into one of iOS 18.1’s most useful new features—the ability to summarise emails with Apple Intelligence! With just a tap, you can get a concise summary of any email, highlighting key information, important dates, and action items. It even changes how emails are previewed in your inbox, allowing you to quickly scan your messages and see what matters at a glance. I’ll walk you through how it works, how to enable it, and why it can make managing emails so much easier.
Transcript
With iOS 18.1, Apple Intelligence introduces a fantastic new feature that can quickly summarise your emails, making it easier to see what’s important, what needs action, and what’s probably closer to spam. To use this feature, simply open an email and swipe up to the top. Here, you’ll find a new Summarise button. Tapping it will use Apple Intelligence to generate a concise summary with the email’s key information, important dates, and action items. This summary stays at the top of the message, so it’s always there when you revisit the email.
What’s also new is that the inbox now displays these summaries instead of just the first few lines of the email body. So, instead of seeing the usual “Hi Jacob, how are you?” you get the essential points at a glance. If you want, you can turn this feature on or off in the Settings app. Go to Settings, scroll to the bottom, find Mail, and select Summarise Previews. You can even adjust the preview length—from one to five lines—to get as much or as little detail as you like.
