Description

Memoji Stickers are awesome, but as soon as you try and use them for anything apart from Messages they tend to look pixelated and blurred. They’re only 421 pixels square – which is tiny!

I use my Memoji all the time (you might have noticed on my channel!) and this is my top trick to make your Memoji Stickers higher resolution whilst also sharpening and enhancing them. In this short and easy-to-follow tutorial I’ll show you exactly what to do to use Super Resolution in PIxelmator Photo and how it all works.

Transcript

Hi it’s Jacob here for another iPhone #QuickTip – and today I’m going to teach you how to supersize your Memoji Stickers (or actually any image for that matter) using the amazing Pixelmator Photo app.

As great as Memoji Stickers are, they are quite low resolution.

And that means if you want to use them for anything bigger than just on a phone screen they can look pixelated really easily.

So what we’re going to do is we’re going to save one of our Stickers and then supersize it so it looks awesome at any size.

To save our Sticker, first of all we’re going to jump into the Notes App.

From here we’re just going to insert the Sticker we want using our keyboard as normal.

I’ll go for this one with my head exploding.

Now the great trick with using Notes is that when you tap onto that Sticker you can then save it as an image in the highest quality possible on your device.

So I’ll press the Share button and I’ll press Save Image.

From here we’re going to go into the Photos App.

Okay, now that image is saved into Photos, I’m going to quickly add it to my ‘Super Resolution Demo’ Album just like this.

And in that Album I’ve now got two Memoji Stickers.

Now, as of iOS15 you can get metadata on your pictures (that means things like the date IT was taken, where it was made, or even the size of the pixels themselves – the resolution) and if we swipe up on the photo we get all that information at the bottom of the screen.

As you can see Memoji Stickers are only 421 pixels square.

That’s really quite small and does explain why you can’t use them in many ways before they become pixelated.

Well let’s change that resolution now and make them much bigger and much clearer.

And to do that we’re going to use the Pixelmator Photo app.

Now this is a paid app, but it is really worth it in my opinion because it has some great editing features that you can’t get on the standard Photos App – including the ability to remove objects completely from your pictures.

I’ve actually made a video on that down below in the description so maybe check that one out after this.

Okay, if I jump onto the Album now with my supersized demo images and open one up into Pixelmator, as I zoom in you’ll see just how pixelated it looks.

Now I’ve got that Sticker opened in Pixelmator I’m going to press the three dots in the top corner of the app and I’m going to choose Super Resolution.

Now this is going to use Machine Learning to automatically upscale your picture and to keep it sharp and crisp.

I hope you can see the difference – it’s really startling when you look at your own phone.

It’s suddenly clearer, it’s sharper and the actual picture is much bigger in resolution as well.

While I’m here I’m going to press the Tick in the top corner to save that Sticker and Modify my original, and then I’m going to do the same thing on my second Memoji Sticker as well.

So I’ll press the three dots in the top corner, I’ll go onto Super Resolution and just like that I’ve upscaled another Memoji Sticker in Pixelmator Photo.

You can even swipe between a before and after using this button on the top toolbar.

Have a look at the glasses and my eyes and you’ll see just how much clearer they look having applied Super Resolution.

Okay I’m going to press the Tick, Modify my picture and then we’ll go back into the Photos App one more time to check on that resolution.

Back in Photos now and, swiping up to get the metadata again, I can now see that my images are over 1200 pixels wide.

That’s nine times more pixels than there were before!

And my Sticker still looks crisp and sharp and beautiful.

And now I can use this anywhere I like – in fact if I put the phone to one side for a minute and I load up my original Sticker on the screen for you now and my supersized one you’ll see just a difference in terms of scale and clarity you can achieve with this app.

And that’s it for today.

I hope you found this #QuickTip helpful and I hope it’s taught you something new you can do on your device.
