In this short tutorial, I’m going to recolour a photograph using the Pixelator photo app. You can use this to recolour parts of any image you like. So, when I open up the app, I’m going to go into this picture here of a skeleton arm and some green putty. One of the old ways of changing the colour would be to change what’s called the temperature of the picture. Now, if I press the filters button in the top right-hand corner, I can then use the temperature slider to make it more warm or more cool. But, as you can see, that affects the whole image and does a pretty poor job of actually recolouring the green Play-Doh at all.
So, what I’m going to do is hide these options and scroll down a bit until I find one called “Replace Colour”. On here, there’s a little Colour Picker icon. When you tap on there, you can then drag over any part of your image to select that colour. So, I’m going to go onto the green, and then I’m going to choose my replacement colour on the other side. I think I might choose orange in this box, and immediately you’re going to see that green has been replaced in my photograph with the orange.
Now, you can fine-tune this using the sliders. The range one is really handy, perhaps if you’ve got more than one area of green in your picture and you don’t want them all to get replaced. Then, the intensity will blend the old colour with the new colour—the more intense, the brighter the new colour will be. And, of course, if I didn’t want the orange, it’s as simple as tapping on that square again and choosing a new colour, say for instance, bright pink. And just like that, my image has been recoloured, and you get a really striking effect in the photograph.
