Description

In this video, I walk through one of the most helpful new features in iOS 18.1: Summarised Notifications. Apple Intelligence now lets you condense your notifications, giving you a quick view of what’s happening without the clutter. I’ll show you how to enable and customise it in Settings, and why it’s great for managing busy group chats, emails, and app alerts.

Transcript

This might just be my favourite Apple Intelligence feature for iPhone: the ability to summarise notifications! With this feature, if you’re receiving lots of notifications—like from group chats or emails—Apple Intelligence will condense them into a quick summary so you can see at a glance what’s going on and what’s important.

Here, you’ll notice I have an email notification that’s been summarised, and if I swipe up, I can also see messages on Threads and YouTube Studio, all grouped and summarised for me. You can still tap on a notification to view each individual message within that summary, but the overall summaries make it easy to get a lot of information in one quick look.

To turn this feature on or off, just go into Settings, then Notifications. From there, you’ll see the Summarise Notifications option, which you can toggle on or off for all apps at once. You can also fine-tune it, enabling or disabling summaries on a per-app basis. If I turn the feature off, you’ll see notifications displayed as usual. When I switch it back on, notifications summarise again, just as they were before.
