nothing to see here!
Description
Liquid Glass has split opinion since it launched: some people love how see-through it is, while others find it harder to read. In iOS 27 there’s finally a proper fix, a new Liquid Glass slider in Settings that takes your iPhone from fully transparent to fully tinted, with a live preview as you drag. I’ll show you the difference live on my own phone, plus my top tip for getting it right in both light and dark mode.

For the last year, a lot of people have been a little unsure about Liquid Glass, Apple’s interface where you can see through the buttons slightly to the content behind. The problem was there wasn’t a way to make it more transparent or less transparent, or at least there wasn’t until now. iOS 27 gives you an unprecedented level of control over exactly how your interface looks on your iPhone. Let me show you how it works.

Okay, so right now my Liquid Glass is fully transparent, the most see-through Apple will let it be, and you can see in the Photos app here that you get all the colours behind it. I like this style, but I can also completely see why people find it harder to read. So let’s change it and see what options we have.
I’m going into the Settings app on my iPhone, then tapping Appearance. From here we’ve got a new menu for Liquid Glass, and it brings up a screen that looks like this. It’s a slider where you can go from more transparent to more tinted, and you can choose any point on that slider. You’ll get a live preview above. My top tip is to check it in both dark mode and light mode as you go, because it looks slightly different on each.
When you’ve found the setting you’re happy with, jump into another app and see how it looks. And look at that, that’s a huge difference in Liquid Glass, and I think it makes your iPhone easier to read.
Before you go running off to do that though, I know what you’re like, hit subscribe first, and then when you come back, check out this Quick Tip next.
