How to Turn Off Apple Intelligence on iPhone in iOS 27

About This QuickTip
Not keen on AI on your iPhone? In iOS 27 there's no longer one switch to turn off Apple Intelligence, and the controls have moved somewhere unexpected. I'll show you where to find them in Settings, how to turn off individual features like Writing Tools, image generation and Siri's web search, and how a Screen Time passcode keeps them switched off, which is ideal if you're setting up an iPhone for a child.

Now look, I know that not everyone likes AI on their devices, and luckily Apple’s giving you a way to turn off most of Siri AI and Apple Intelligence on the iPhone. The problem is, they’ve hidden it in the most ridiculous of places. So don’t worry, I’ll explain how it works, how we get there, and what you can and can’t turn off.
And before we do that, if you’re new around here, then hi, my name is Jacob. I’m your friendly Apple expert here on YouTube to help you make the most of your devices. So if you want to learn lots of interesting things, please do tap subscribe, and then you won’t miss any QuickTips in the future.
Okay, so let’s try and turn off some of these Siri AI features. To do this, we’ll go into the Settings app, which makes sense, but then we’re not going to go on to Siri, because that would be too sensible. We’re actually going to be looking for the Screen Time settings instead. Yep, I know, it doesn’t make much sense. Bear with me.
When you’re on the Screen Time settings, there’s a bunch of different stuff here we can customise, but we actually want to go on to this option here. That’s where Siri lives. In fact, you can see it’s hiding right there on the next page.
So now when I tap on Siri, I get a screen that looks like this, and from here I can choose to turn on and turn off different features. So, for example, we might disable Image Playground completely, then it won’t show up in other apps. Perhaps we’ll turn off the Writing Tools. Well, that means you won’t get the little bubble underneath each thing you select on the screen.
Maybe we’re going to stop Siri using its wider world model, so it’s not going to be searching the web for up-to-date information. We can turn that off as well. In fact, there are lots of different granular controls here you can enable or disable.
And it really is worth a look at these, especially if you’re setting up a device for a child or someone a bit younger. You might want to turn off things like sensitive content, image generation, some of those sorts of features.
So, Settings, Screen Time, then Siri. That’ll sort you out. But before you go and do that, you might want to check out this QuickTip next.
