In this video, I’ll walk you through a quick and simple way to share your current location within an iMessage conversation on iOS 17. Learn how to utilise this convenient feature to meet up with friends, provide directions, or keep loved ones informed about your whereabouts. Whether you’re new to iOS 17 or just want to make the most of your messaging experience, this tutorial has got you covered. Join me as I explore the world of easy location sharing in iMessage.

Transcript

How many times have you had a conversation thread with someone and you’ve been saying “oh I’m 10 minutes away”, “I’m five minutes away”, “nearly there, nearly there!”

Well you can actually do it much easier now in iOS 17, and that is you can just share your live location with your contacts for a set amount of time.

All I’m gonna do is press the Plus button next to the text box and then from here I can choose Location.

Straight away you’ll see a map that comes up of your current location and when you press that blue Share button you have the option of sharing it for an hour, until the end of the day, or indefinitely.

Depending on who you’re messaging and how that conversation is going you can choose the most appropriate one here for you.

I’m gonna go for an hour for this message, and just like that when you send it a live map will go into that message thread and anyone in the conversation can see your current location – even if you’re moving.

If I wanted to stop sharing this I can simply tap on the map and at the bottom of my screen I can press Stop Sharing.

And remember this works in group chats as well, so if you share your location everyone in that group can see where you are even when you’re out and about and moving.

And if other people in that group want to share their location too you’ll be able to keep track on where they are and you can all make sure you’re meeting at the same place at the same time.
