Want to record your iPhone screen? In this quick tutorial, I’ll show you exactly how to use the built-in Screen Recording feature to capture everything happening on your device. You’ll learn how to add Screen Recording to your Control Centre, start recording your screen, and choose whether to include microphone audio. This is perfect for creating tutorials, sharing tech support with friends or colleagues, or recording something important happening on your screen.
Step by Step
Open your Control Centre
Swipe down from the top right-hand corner of your screen to open Control Centre. You may already have the Screen Recording button ready to go, but you may not.
Add the Screen Recording button
If you don't have that button, all you're going to do is press and hold somewhere in an empty space in your Control Centre, then tap Add a Control at the bottom. Search for Screen Recording and you're going to see that button appearing straight away.
Reposition and resize the button
Tapping on the button will add it to your Control Centre. You can drag and drop to reposition it if you want to, and you can even pull the corner out to make it slightly bigger.
Long-press to choose the audio
Long-press on the button, not just tap it once. If you tap it once, you're going to start recording, but you don't know if you're going to capture the audio or not. Long-press the button and then you can toggle the microphone on or off. If that button is red, it will record the audio as well as just the screen.
Start the recording
Press the button and the recording is going to start. Then go to whatever you want to capture on your screen.
Stop the recording
To stop it, press the red icon at the top of your screen. It might be in the Dynamic Island, or it might be in the Control Centre. Tap on that button and you have the option to stop recording.
Find your recording in Photos
Tap on the little preview at the top and you can jump straight into the Photos app to find that screen recording.
Good to know
- It can be nice making the button bigger, because then you get the label next to the button to remind you what it does.
- If you miss that preview at the top, don't panic. The recording will be saved automatically into the Photos app for you.
- This is great for creating tutorials, sharing tech support with friends or colleagues, or recording something important happening on your screen.

Hey, it's your friendly teacher, Jacob here, and today I'm going to show you how you can do screen recording on your iPhone - how you can capture everything that you're doing on your device, as well as the audio if you'd like to. I'll show you that too, and then you can save it as a video file to email or message to who you need to send it to.
So, all we're going to do is use our Control Centre by swiping down from the top right-hand corner of your screen. Now, on mine, I've actually got the Screen Recording button ready to go. It looks like this, but you may not have that.
So, if you don't have that button, all you're going to do is press and hold somewhere in an empty space in your Control Centre, and then you can tap Add a Control at the bottom. From here, I'm just going to search for Screen Recording, and you're going to see that button appearing straight away.
Tapping on that will add it to my Control Centre, and I can actually drag and drop to reposition that if I want to, and I can even pull the corner out to make it slightly bigger. It can be nice making it bigger because then you get the label next to the button to remind you what it does.
One last really important thing to do here is to long-press on the button, not just tap it once. If you tap it once, you're going to start recording, which might be great, but you don't know if you're going to capture the audio or not. And sometimes you might want that, sometimes you might not.
So, the best option here is to long-press the button, and then you can toggle the microphone on or off. If that button is red, that means it will record the audio as well as just the screen. Then you can press the button and the recording is going to start.
I'll just go back to my Home Screen and record a couple of seconds. And while that's happening, if you've not subscribed yet, please do. You'll find loads more videos that will help you on my channel.
Okay, so the recording's done. To stop this, I need to press the red icon at the top of my screen. For me, it's in the Dynamic Island. For you, it might be in the Control Centre.
Then, when I tap on that button, I have the option to stop recording, just like this. And then, if I tap on the little preview at the top here, I can jump straight into the Photos app to find that screen recording, just like this.
