Description

Siri doesn’t have to sound the way it did out of the box. In iOS 27 you can fully customise Siri’s voice on your iPhone, choosing your region and accent, then fine-tuning new Pace and Expressivity sliders to make it faster, slower, flatter or warmer and more conversational. I’ll show you where to find these settings and which iPhones support the new sliders, as they’re currently limited to the iPhone 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air.

Transcript

As well as Siri AI being a big new feature in iOS 27, the actual voice that we use when we interact with Siri has also had a huge upgrade. And we can now customise it like never before, when we interact with it on our phone, HomePod, CarPlay, and all of those things. Let me show you how it works, and it’s really simple to get set up.

And before we do that, if you’re new around here, then hi, my name is Jacob. I’m your friendly Apple expert here to help you make the most of your iPhone and other devices. Please do press subscribe down below, and you won’t miss any QuickTips in the future.

Okay, so on my phone running iOS 27, I’m going to tap on the Settings app, and then find Siri from the options on there. Then, we’re going to tap onto the Voice option. And this is where, in the past, you could choose what sort of accent you wanted Siri to use. Now, however, it’s far more in-depth than that.

We’re going to start off by choosing the region of the voice you want. So, based on your device’s language, mine is English, it will give you a variety of different options. For example, I can do American, I can do Australian, South African, British. I’m going to go onto British. And then we get the different voice options at the top, in coloured circles.

If I tap onto one of them, “Hi, let’s find the right voice, try another one, you have one new message,” you can hear the difference straight away. There are some new voices here, and I particularly like number four. I think that’s a good one for my phone.

We can then adjust the two sliders underneath. The top one controls the pace, you can make Siri talk faster or slower, “at the next stop, quite quickly,” in this video. That’s just who I am when I’ve had coffee. You might want your Siri to be the same, or you might want your Siri to be a little bit slower and more relaxed, “one new message.”

Then change the Expressivity as well. Do you want it to sound like a robot with no emotion, or do you want it to sound like a person you’re talking to, like a friend? You can decide, on that slider, where you want both of those to go. And as you change it in real time, you’ll hear the difference in Siri’s voice.

And that’s it. When you press the back button, you’ve updated your Siri to sound exactly like you want.

And before you go and do that now, one last favour: tap subscribe, and then you might want to come back and check out this QuickTip next.
