Description

In this QuickTips video, I’ll be your guide to customizing how notifications appear on StandBy Mode in iOS 17. Join me as I show you how to take control of your notification privacy by adjusting settings to hide notifications, hide the content of notifications, or even disable notifications entirely when your device is in StandBy Mode. It’s all about tailoring your iOS 17 experience to suit your preferences and maintain your privacy. Whether you’re new to iOS 17 or looking to fine-tune your notification settings, this tutorial has you covered.

Transcript

With Standby Mode on iOS 17, you have a few different options as to how notifications appear; they can either be quite subtle or they can be very obvious and show all the content in that notification, depending on how you’re using Standby Mode. Perhaps you want to use it at work, where concentration is important; you might want to change these settings. We do this in the Settings app, and then we scroll down to where it says “Standby”. From here, we then have a few options for notifications.

The first and most obvious thing I can do is simply to turn off notifications. That means that most things won’t show up on the home screen, apart from what are called critical alerts, things which you really have to see right now. They will still show up, but with the notifications turned off, you shouldn’t be disturbed at all during your work. With notifications turned on, you’ll then get the full notification on your Standby screen the minute it comes in. But you could use the second option here to show the info only when you tap on it, if you wanted slightly more privacy. That way, you won’t get the full notification unless you actively tap on the screen to get all the information. It will also unlock your phone using Face ID to check it’s really you. That means that your notifications are that little bit more private, so if you’re in a public space, they won’t be able to be seen by someone walking by. They’re only ready to be seen when you tap on the screen.

So, a few different things you can change in Standby to make your notifications work the way you want them to. And there are lots of other things that you can tweak, adjust, and explore on your iPhone running iOS 17. And if you want to learn about them, check out this playlist on the end screen now.
