With Standby Mode on iOS 17, you have a few different options as to how notifications appear; they can either be quite subtle or they can be very obvious and show all the content in that notification, depending on how you’re using Standby Mode. Perhaps you want to use it at work, where concentration is important; you might want to change these settings. We do this in the Settings app, and then we scroll down to where it says “Standby”. From here, we then have a few options for notifications.

The first and most obvious thing I can do is simply to turn off notifications. That means that most things won’t show up on the home screen, apart from what are called critical alerts, things which you really have to see right now. They will still show up, but with the notifications turned off, you shouldn’t be disturbed at all during your work. With notifications turned on, you’ll then get the full notification on your Standby screen the minute it comes in. But you could use the second option here to show the info only when you tap on it, if you wanted slightly more privacy. That way, you won’t get the full notification unless you actively tap on the screen to get all the information. It will also unlock your phone using Face ID to check it’s really you. That means that your notifications are that little bit more private, so if you’re in a public space, they won’t be able to be seen by someone walking by. They’re only ready to be seen when you tap on the screen.
