Let’s focus on a fantastic feature in iOS 17’s Photos app – Photo Lookup. If you’ve ever wondered how to transform your collection of food photos into actual recipes, you’re in for a treat. I’ll walk you through the step-by-step process of using photo lookup to get a recipe from a photo of food. Get ready to unlock the potential of your culinary snapshots and turn them into delectable dishes right at your fingertips.

The Lookup feature in Photos for iOS has always been really helpful at finding landmarks, or pieces of art, or details on animals – but with iOS 17 it’s got a few new tricks.
For example in this picture of some food there’s now a Lookup option at the bottom, and you might be thinking “well that’s great Jacob, it’s going to say it’s a lemon tart or a lemon cheesecake”, but actually it goes one step beyond that.
You see, if I tap onto that Lookup option not only do I get to see the name of that particular item of food I also get some suggested recipes as well.
Now there’s a quick disclaimer that it’s not 100% perfect – if you take a photo of a burger it’s not going to know exactly what sort of burger that is, but it’s a really good starting point.
For me I can actually find the recipe that I want and simply tap straight through and get the ingredients, the method, and I can start cooking if I wanted to – or I could just go back to the restaurant because this was delicious!
