With Apple Intelligence, we can now create our own Memory Movies in the Photos app. Up until now, these movies have been created automatically from events or trips you’ve taken – those beautiful collages of images and videos with a little soundtrack playing underneath. I find these a great way to enjoy old photos from my library, and the fact that they’re created for me has been really handy. But sometimes, you just want to make your own.
To do this, all I’m going to do is tap where it says Create a Memory Movie. Then, I’ll type in what I want to see. This is the really clever part – you can type in people, places, dates, weather, special occasions, or pretty much anything you can imagine, and Apple Intelligence will work out which photos fit that brief. I’m going to search for ‘Rollercoasters in America’ to show you how specific this can be. When I press Go, it will start analysing your photos and videos with a beautiful on-screen animation, and you can see the pictures being refined in real-time. Underneath, you’ll see keywords and prompts that Apple Intelligence is exploring to find matching images.
When it’s done, you can simply tap on the Memory Movie to watch it back. You can look through the photos that were chosen, and you can even edit the pictures and videos if you want to. I think this one has come out really well, but I do want to add one more photo. So, I’m going to tap the three dots in the top corner, and from there, I can go to Edit Title and Photos. As you’d expect, you can change the title, and you can also add other photos from your library. I want to add this picture of the outside of Space Mountain, which it hasn’t recognised as a roller coaster because you can’t see any track. Just like that, I can add it to my Memory Movie.
Of course, I can press the heart button to favourite this so it won’t disappear automatically after a while. The ability to create Memory Movies is just one of many new Apple Intelligence features that have come to your iPad with iOS 18.1. In fact, over time, Apple is going to release more and more features for the iPad that really lean into Apple Intelligence.
