Description

Want the perfect playlist without spending ages picking songs? You can connect ChatGPT to Apple Music, describe exactly what you’re after in plain language, and have it built for you, ready to save straight to your library. I’ll show you how to link the two apps and get the best results, including the brilliant sunbathing playlist inspired by Coldplay’s Parachutes that it created for me, complete with its own name.

Transcript

I’ve recently found a really cool way of using ChatGPT to create personalised playlists in Apple Music for me, based on songs that I like and moods or things I want to do whilst listening to music. It’s surprisingly good, and I want to share it with you because I think you’ll enjoy it too.

So, you need to use ChatGPT for this, I’m on the free version, and I’ll show you how to connect to Apple Music and how to make your first playlist. But don’t worry, it’s pretty straightforward.

And if you’re new around here, before we start, then hi, I’ll introduce myself. My name is Jacob, I’m here to be your friendly Apple expert to help you make the most of your iPhone. So, press subscribe and you won’t miss any QuickTips in the future.

Okay, so I’m in the ChatGPT app here, and I’m going to go onto my Settings page by going into the sidebar and then pressing Settings at the bottom. From here, we’re looking for the Plugins option, which is kind of near the top there, and we’re going to add a brand new plugin. These are other apps and websites and tools that can connect into ChatGPT, and you can control how much access you do or don’t want to give them.

I’m going to search for Apple Music, and I’m going to press a little plus button there to connect. Now, for this to work, you need to sign into your Apple Music account through ChatGPT, and the iPhone will guide you through that really quickly. You’re going to tap onto Allow, Sign In, everything it says. And before you know it, you’re going to be connected with Apple Music.

So, now I’m connected, I’m going to make a brand new chat in ChatGPT, and you can either type or dictate into that text box. Before we do that, though, we want to press the plus button and choose Apple Music from the plugins list. That will then show up as a little tag in the text box, and then we’re going to be using Apple Music with the instructions we give ChatGPT.

So I’ll press Dictate, and I’m going to say: “I’d like to have a playlist of music for when I’m sunbathing on holiday. I really like Coldplay’s Parachutes album, that’s a great album for relaxing by the pool. So find me more music that’s similar to that, and make a playlist for me in Apple Music.”

I know that’s quite wordy, I’ve given it quite a big instruction there, but actually that’s important, the more information you give ChatGPT, or any AI service, the better the result should be.

So, it’s going to start thinking, it’s going to start finding music in that area. Straight away, you’re going to see it’s done a really good job. If you know Coldplay’s Parachutes at all, you’ll know that a lot of these songs fit that same vibe, the acoustic guitar, the sun, all those sort of things. And I’ve made a really nice playlist, it’s even given it a name for me, to kind of make it feel unique. And then I can simply tap on here to open up that playlist in Apple Music.

Now, all I have to do is find a beach somewhere, put my AirPods in, and enjoy the music.

Before I do that, though, I’ll quickly remind you, if you’ve enjoyed this video, please do press like and subscribe. And then I think you’re going to really enjoy this QuickTip next.
