Description
Apple Music’s new Automix feature in iOS 26 blends songs together like a DJ, syncing beats seamlessly. Learn how to turn it on (or switch back to crossfade) and enjoy smoother transitions.
Transcript
Apple Music has got a brand-new DJ-inspired feature called Automix, which will take two songs in a playlist or an album and seamlessly blend them together as you’re listening. It’s a bit like having your own personal DJ in your pocket — and the results are surprisingly good.
In the past, when you were listening to music, you could use a crossfade effect between songs. One track would get quieter while the next got louder. But if they had different tempos or beats, it could sound quite jarring. Automix solves that by syncing the beats of both songs, speeding them up or slowing them down so they blend perfectly.
Here’s how it works. Open the Now Playing screen in the Music app, then press the playlist button at the bottom to see all your upcoming tracks. Normally, this is where you can shuffle, loop, or repeat — but now there’s a brand-new Automix button at the end. Tap it once, and Automix is enabled. That’s it.
To see it in action, go back to your track and scrub forward to the last 10 seconds. When you press play, you’ll see the Now Playing bar glow and a message saying Mixing. At that moment, Automix is seamlessly blending your current song into the next one.
If you don’t like Automix and prefer the original crossfade, don’t worry — you can switch back. Just open the Settings app, scroll to Music, and under Audio settings you’ll find Song Transitions. From here, you can choose either Automix or Crossfade.
It’s worth mentioning Automix does require an Apple Music subscription, but if you’re already using the Music app, chances are you’ve got one.
There are loads more new features in the Music app for iOS 26, including lyric translation, playlist folders, and more. Check out my other videos to learn how they work, and subscribe so you don’t miss the next QuickTip. See you soon.
