Description

For years your iPhone’s alarm has been stuck sharing a volume with your ringtone, but iOS 27 finally lets you separate them. In this quick guide I’ll show you the new options in Settings under Sounds & Haptics, where Alarms and Timers, and Alerts and System Sounds, each get their own Match Ringtone Volume toggle. Turn it off for a dedicated slider, so your alarm can be as loud or quiet as you like, whatever your ringtone’s set to.

Well, it’s finally happened. Apple have let you change the volume of your alarm, and it can be different from the volume of your ringtone. I made a video about changing the volume of these a while ago, and the amount of comments I had about “why can’t you separate the volume for a ringtone and an alarm, why have they got to be the same” — it’s crazy how passionate people are about this.

But now, with iOS 27, we can set a separate volume for the ringtone, for alerts and timers, and for system sounds. So, let me show you how it works.

And if you’re new around here, then hi, my name is Jacob. I’m your friendly Apple expert here to help you make the most out of the devices you’ve got already. So tap subscribe, and you won’t miss any QuickTips in the future.

Okay, to change our volume settings, we’ll jump into the Settings app, and then we’re going to go onto Sounds & Haptics. From here, we’ve got the same screen we used to have, with two new toggles underneath.

Now, in the past, when you changed the ringtone volume, that would also change the alarm. But now, underneath Alarms and Timers, there’s a little toggle that says Match Ringtone Volume. When that toggle’s turned on, it behaves just like it did in iOS 26 and earlier. But if you turn that toggle off, you can now specify a certain volume for your alarms, which can be different from the ringtone volume.

And that’s it. It’s only taken, what, 15 years, to get here.

And before you go and change your volume, make sure you press subscribe, and then check out this QuickTip next.
