About This QuickTip

Getting little ones to look at the camera can feel impossible, but the iPhone Duo has a clever trick up its sleeve. Kid Cue plays Snoopy and Peanuts animations on the outer screen to catch your subject's eye while you take the photo from the inside screen. I'll show you where to find it in the Camera app, and I put it to the test on my cat, Pudding.

With the iPhone Duo, we’ve got some really interesting things we can do, because we have two different screens. One of those is to use the camera to attract our children’s attention when we’re taking photographs, with a feature called Kid Cue, which shows some really cool and cute little Snoopy animations on the outside screen to get them looking at you when you’re taking a photo.

Now, I haven’t got kids to demonstrate this with, and the only other option I had was my cat, Pudding. So, I’m going to try and show you how Kid Cue works with a cat who doesn’t like dogs very much. We’ll see how I get on.

Before I do that, though, if you’re new around here, then hi, my name is Jacob, and I’m your friendly Apple expert here on YouTube to help you make the most of your devices, by making technology feel a bit simpler and a bit more fun. So, if you like videos like this, please do press subscribe.

Okay, so on the iPhone Duo, I’ve opened up my phone and I’m going into the Camera app as normal. Now, obviously, I can just take some photos from here straight away, but really I want to turn on this outer screen to make it do some cool animations to get people’s attention. So, I’m going to press this button in the top corner of the Camera app, which is only on the iPhone Duo, and from here I can select Kid Cue by tapping on it.

At this point, the outer screen is going to come to life straight away, and it should attract their attention to look at you. However, my cat Pudding is currently on the other side of the room, so that’s no good. So, I’m going to use some little treats as well. Now, these don’t come with the iPhone Duo. These are extra, but I think in my situation, they might be needed.

But I’m hoping that this little animation will attract his attention, so I can get some cute pictures of him. Now, as I’m doing this, you can see that he’s more interested in the treats than the phone, and really, it hasn’t quite worked as I hoped it would. But you can imagine, with little ones running around, this could be a really great way of getting their attention and making sure they’re smiling and laughing when you’re taking the photos.

And so, that’s it for this QuickTip. If you want to see what else your iPhone can do, please do check out this video next.
