Description
The Uber app seems to get busier every time I open it, with more buttons, adverts and messages I don’t want, but there’s a hidden Simple Mode tucked away in the accessibility settings that strips all that clutter away. In this quick guide I’ll show you how to enable it on your iPhone, plus the options for larger text and letting drivers know you’re a senior. You can still book rides and order food, just without the extra noise.

As time goes by, I find that the Uber app gets more and more complicated, with more and more features and buttons and adverts and messages showing up. I just want to book a taxi. I don’t want all of this stuff going on.
Well, there’s a brand new feature in Uber called Simple Mode, which is, I guess, aimed at older users, to perhaps make apps simpler to use. But I’ve turned it on for myself, and it’s so much nicer to use now. Let me show you how it works.
And if you’re new around these parts, hi, I’m Jacob. I’m your friendly Apple expert. Please do subscribe, and I’ll show you loads of ways you can get more value out of your iPhone and your iPad.
So, all we’re going to do in the Uber app is go onto our Account page at the very bottom, and we’ll scroll down a little bit to find Simple Mode. Now, we need to toggle it on here by flicking that switch.
Then the first thing you can do is choose if you want to have larger text or not. I’ll turn it on, and you can see the difference straight away. We can also let Uber know if we are a senior by turning on the toggle here. That information can be shared with drivers too, meaning they can give you a little bit more time to get in and out of the vehicle, and it perhaps helps them prepare better for your arrival. You don’t have to share that information at all, and, like I say, you don’t have to be a senior to use this feature either. The Uber police aren’t going to come and arrest you just for turning it on.
But when you have turned it on, if you go back to the home screen, you’ll notice straight away that all of that clutter is gone. You can book a ride, you can order your food, you can do all of the key things in Uber, but it’s greatly streamlined and far simpler.
I’ve turned it on all the time now when I’m using Uber, and I wouldn’t go back to the old cluttered interface now. I find this so much nicer to use. So give it a try. Let me know in the comments how you get on, and then check out this QuickTip next.
