Description
In this video, I’ll show you how to use the new Apple Intelligence writing tools on your iPhone to summarise and extract key points from large chunks of text. Whether you’re working on a project or planning your next trip, these tools can quickly reduce lengthy paragraphs into concise summaries and bullet points, helping you focus on the most important information. Plus, they work anywhere you have text on your iPhone!
Transcript
With the new writing tools, which are part of Apple Intelligence, we now have the option to summarise and extract key points from large blocks of text. Here, I’ve got some information about visiting Japan that I found online, but I want to grab the key points so I can make a presentation for my partner, convincing them why we should go.
I’m going to select all of the text by tapping and dragging my finger across it. Then, I’ll press the Apple Intelligence writing tools button, which brings up the writing tools menu. What’s worth mentioning at this point is that these options work anywhere you have text on your iPhone, not just in the Notes app.
Down at the bottom of the menu, I’m going to select Summary first, and it’s going to reduce that paragraph down to a couple of lines to summarise the key points. While this is useful, I want a bit more detail, so I’ll revert those changes and choose the Key Points option next. This will take that block of text, analyse the key information, and generate a bullet-point list based on what I need to know.
Now that it’s done that, I can copy those key points and paste them into my note. In fact, I’m so happy with how it looks that I can delete the original paragraph entirely and just keep the key information I need about my potential trip to Japan.
