Description

Never lose track of your holiday spending again. Instead of stuffing receipts in your pocket and adding it all up on the way home, I’ll show you how to build a simple expense log right inside the Notes app on your iPhone, scanning each receipt with Scan Documents and grouping them by day. Every receipt is saved as a PDF, neatly organised and easy to scroll through, so you always know exactly what you spent and where.

Transcript

I always come back from trips with a pocket full of receipts that I mean to scan but never actually do, and then you’re on the way home trying to work out what you’ve actually spent, and it’s a mess.

So, I started doing this instead, and it’s so much easier.

Open the Notes app and create a new note for your trip – something like Munich expenses.

Now, every time you get a receipt, simply tap into Notes, press the paperclip icon, and then select Scan Documents. It scans it instantly and saves it straight into that note as well.

I like to add a quick line above or below with what the receipt is – so, dinner €24 or train €8. That way, when you scroll through later, you can see everything at a glance.

You can even add larger headings for each day – Day 1, Day 2, and so on – so it stays really nicely organised.

It takes a few seconds each time, but it saves a lot of hassle later because all of these are saved to your phone as PDF documents, and you actually know where your money went.
