Description

Learn how to use the Quick Questions feature in Showbie to assess student understanding instantly and effectively. This feature allows you to ask questions, gather results in real time and gain a clear picture of how your students are progressing.

Whether you’re using it for formative assessment or quick classroom polls, this tool is perfect for adapting your teaching on the fly. I’ll even show you how to save and export results for future reference to help with your teaching.

Transcript

The Quick Questions feature in Showbie is excellent for in-the-moment assessment, helping you ensure your students are on the right track and giving you a clear picture of their understanding across the class.

To get started, go into one of your assignments in Showbie, then start a new Quick Question by pressing the button here or tapping the three dots and selecting Quick Question. At this point, you can type in a question and include up to four possible answers. For example, I’ll quickly add a question about which Pixar film is their favourite—though I imagine your assessments will be more meaningful than mine, but you get the idea! Once you’ve added your possible answers, you can launch the question to your class.

On their end, your students will see the question in their feed. All they need to do is tap the orange button, select an answer, and submit it—completing their part of the assessment process.

As the teacher, you’ll see the results coming in on your iPad in real time on a handy chart. While this feature doesn’t allow you to see which individual students chose each answer, it provides an instant overview of your class’s results, which is incredibly helpful for gauging understanding.

It’s also very quick to finish one question and send out another, allowing for a seamless flow of in-the-moment assessments. However, if you want to save the results, you need to export them before ending the assessment. These results are temporary and won’t be saved in Showbie after the session ends. To save them, press the Export button, which will save the results as an image to your camera roll.

Finally, you can head over to your Photos app to view the image—a screenshot of the results from your quick assessment. Quick Questions in Showbie are an excellent tool for minute-by-minute assessment, helping you track student understanding and adapt your teaching on the fly.
