With iOS 16.2 you finally hide your wallpaper on your Always On Display – leaving just a clean, simple, pure black screen. That means less distractions, less glancing over and thinking you left your iPhone 14 Pro unlocked and more battery life too. It’s super easy to switch this on and this quick tutorial will show you exactly what to do.

The always-on display on the iPhone 14 Pro is a great feature, but if you’re like me sometimes it can be quite distracting because you’ve got your whole wallpaper there (albeit faded in the background).
Well, with iOS 16.2 you can remove that wallpaper image!
Simply jump into Settings and then scroll down to Display and Brightness.
From here towards the bottom of that screen are the options for the Always On Display.
From here we now have two new options: you can Hide the Wallpaper and you can Hide your Notifications.
So if I turn on the Hide Wallpaper toggle and then come out of Settings, this time when I lock my iPhone rather than getting the faded wallpaper I’ll get this nice clean black screen instead.
There’s no wallpaper!
But I’ve just got the clock and my widgets at the top.
