Description
iOS 26 introduces Live Translation in the Phone app, letting you translate calls in real time. Learn how to set it up and have multilingual conversations instantly.
Transcript
Hi, it’s Jacob here and I want to show you how the Live Translation feature works in the Phone app when you’re making and receiving calls.
Live Translation works in Messages, FaceTime, and the Phone app. It will automatically convert whatever language you’re speaking into a language that both you and the person on the other end can understand. That means you can have a multilingual conversation where everyone knows exactly what’s going on.
Now, I’ve got a phone call here from myself, so it’s going to be a bit tricky to demo — but I’ll do my best! In this call, I’ll be speaking English, because sadly that’s all I can really speak properly (apart from a few broken words of German). But we’ll translate that English into German.
To do this, I’m going to press the More button in the bottom left-hand corner, then choose Live Translation. At this point, you tell the iPhone which languages you want to work with — the language you’re hearing, and the language it should be translated into. For this demo, I’ll set it to translate from English into German.
Now, as I start talking on this phone call, you’ll hear me in English, but you’ll also see — and then hear — a translation in German.
And just like that, you can now have multilingual conversations where both participants can speak their native tongue, and the Phone app will handle the translation automatically.
The best part? As long as your iPhone is running iOS 26, you can use this translation feature even if the person you’re calling hasn’t updated yet — it works on your device, not theirs.
And this is just one of many clever new features in iOS 26. If you want to see what else is new — including the brilliant Hold Assist in the Phone app — check out my channel and make sure you subscribe for hundreds more iPhone QuickTips.
