Description
Did you know you can link notes together in the Notes app on your iPhone? It turns Notes from a place for quick thoughts into a genuinely powerful network of connected ideas, with one overview note for a project or topic linking out to as many subnotes as you like. I’ll show you how to add links, point them at specific headings and choose your own link text, plus my top tip for navigating between notes both ways.

I think a lot of people look at the Notes app as a place to jot down a couple of thoughts and perhaps put your shopping list every now and then, but actually it’s an incredibly powerful tool for organising all of your ideas and all of the things you want to keep track of. And one of the ways we can do this is by creating links between different notes. That means you can create one overview note, perhaps for work or for a project you’re doing, and then you can link to lots of subnotes within that one homepage, creating a really powerful network of connected thoughts and ideas, built right into the iPhone using the Notes app.
Let me show you how it works, it’s super simple. And before we get started, if you’re new around here, then hi, my name is Jacob. I’m your friendly Apple expert here to help you make the most of your iPhone and iPad. If you want more QuickTips, hit subscribe.
Okay, so we’re in the note at the moment, and I want to link to a few subnotes linked to my main topic here. And all I’m going to do is tap onto a new line, and then scroll sideways on the little toolbar at the bottom. This is one where you can make text bold or change the colour, all of those things. But if we go sideways a little bit more, you’ll see a link icon here.
Now, we can link to other places, like websites. At this stage, we can type in an address or whatever you want. But actually, if you press the little plus button in the corner here, it will let you browse any of the notes on your device. I’m going to tap onto this note here to link to that one.
And then we’ve got a couple more choices. If the note has got multiple headings and subheadings, we can link to a specific point on that note, or if you want to go to the general note, you can do that as well. We can also choose to use the name of the note as the hyperlink text, or we can turn that toggle off and type in our own title here as well, giving you complete customisation.
And then when you’re done, you can simply tap on it, and just like that, it will jump into the new note that you’ve linked. And a top tip before you go, on the new note, the one that you’ve just linked to, add a link back to that original note as well. And that way, as you build out your system, you can jump forwards and backwards at will.
And if you enjoyed this tip, I think you’re going to love this one next.
