Explore the enhanced Freeform features in iOS 18, making it easier than ever to link objects and organise your thoughts. This video demonstrates the new connector functionality, allowing for quick and intuitive shape placement and customisation.
Transcript
Using connectors to link up different objects in Freeform has become a lot easier in iOS 18. You now don’t have to consider what you’re going to place and where; you can simply drag a line, and it will put a new shape wherever you let go. Let me show you on this Freeform board.
I’m going to tap on “Board Options” on the top menu, which is that button there, and then I’m going to tap onto “Show Connectors”. This means that whenever I tap onto an object on my board, I’ll now get arrows coming out of every side. These arrows are quick toggles to add connectors, and I can simply tap and drag one of those arrows and let go anywhere I like.
While this did work in iOS 17, the update for iOS 18 is that when I let go with my finger, I get this little pop-up screen that comes up, allowing me to quickly and easily put a shape at the end of that connector. This means that for mind mapping or quickly organising my thoughts and ideas onto a board, I don’t have to go through the whole faff of adding a shape, positioning it, and doing a connector—all of those sorts of things. I can simply drag out from the old object, create a new object, and then type in my thoughts by double tapping.
Of course, I can change the colour, and I can change the border; all of the normal tools in Freeform are still available to me. This is just a quicker way of adding shapes onto your board. And this isn’t the only new feature in Freeform on iOS 18. In fact, you can now add scenes and navigate them in really interesting ways, which makes managing big boards far easier.
