Whenever a new iOS update is released, it generally comes with new wallpapers for your device. This year, with iOS 18, we’ve got the first-of-its-kind dynamic wallpaper that will adjust its colour over the course of the day. To change this, I’m going to go to my lock screen and tap and hold to customise. I think I’ll create a brand new lock screen to demonstrate this by swiping sideways and then pressing the plus button here.
In the wallpaper gallery, I’m going to choose the iOS 18 option, and when I go onto that, I can swipe sideways to change the colour. There’s a yellow version, there’s a blue version, but if I swipe all the way to the left, there’s a dynamic version, and just watch what happens. As you can see, that colour is gently and beautifully fading between different variations of the wallpaper. This works in both light and dark mode on your lock screen and your home screen. Of course, it won’t change this quickly in real life; it changes over the course of 24 hours, but it means every time you look at your device, your wallpaper is slightly different, and that’s really quite pleasing.
From here, I can do other things like changing those lock screen action buttons. If you want to learn more about that, please do check out the other videos on my channel, or you can explore the new eBook that I’ve written this year, “100 Quick Tips for iOS 18”. You’ll find details of that in the description below. Now, when I confirm my lock screen and go back to the home screen, I’ve got that beautiful new wallpaper that’s going to change gradually over the course of the day.
