Description

Struggling to read small text on your iPhone? There’s a simple way to fix that! With iOS, you can easily adjust text size for specific apps or your entire device, making reading more comfortable. In this video, I’ll show you how to add the Text Size control to Control Centre and customise font sizes for different apps.

Transcript

When you’re using your iPhone, sometimes you want to make the text size bigger on the screen, but the app you’re using perhaps doesn’t have controls to do that itself. Well, there’s actually a built-in accessibility feature that lets you change your text size across the entire device or on a specific app.

So, here I’m in the News app, and you can see I’m browsing a story about a game I like playing called Balatro, but the writing is quite small—especially on the article itself.

To change this, I’m going to swipe down from the top right-hand corner to bring up Control Centre, and I’m going to press the plus button in the corner to add a new control. Then, using the button at the bottom, I can customise what controls I like, and I’m just going to search for Text.

Here, you can see there’s a little slider for Text Size, and tapping on that will add it to my Control Centre for me. Then, if I tap and hold on that control, you can see I’ve got a large version of the text slider, where I can make the writing bigger or smaller.

But interestingly, I can actually change this for all apps on my device or just the app that I’m currently using. If I tap on News Only—which is the app I’m in at the moment—I can then change the text size to whatever I want it to be. And when I come out of Control Centre, you’ll see that the News app has changed, making the writing a little easier to read.

I can put this back to normal at any time by going back into Control Centre and reducing the slider to 100% again. Let’s quickly try All Apps while we’re here as well. So, let’s put the slider up to the top—135%—and as soon as I leave that screen, you’ll notice that my Control Centre looks slightly different because the writing is now larger.

This will apply across the entire operating system, but for me, I just wanted it in that one app. So, I’ll go back into Control Centre and just change it on Music instead.
