Description
The shortcuts bar in Apple Maps doesn’t have to be filled with the places it picked for you. You can make it your own, pinning the addresses you actually visit, unpinning ones you don’t need, and adding handy built-in shortcuts like Public Transport, which instantly shows nearby bus and train connections wherever you are in the world. In this quick guide I’ll show you how to customise the favourites bar on your iPhone in just a few taps.

In the Maps app, there’s a little row of shortcut places, places you regularly visit that you want to get directions to or find more information about. But did you know you can actually customise this to make it work just the way you want, to save you time? Here’s how it works.
And hi, if you don’t know me yet, my name is Jacob. I’m your friendly iPhone teacher, helping you make the most out of your devices.
So, in the Maps app, all I’m going to do is long-press onto one of those shortcuts that’s currently there, and I can actually unpin it from that list. So, for me, I’m no longer working at my old job, I can long-press on there and then I can press Unpin. And now the Work shortcut is gone. But we can then change this to a new work location if you wanted to, by tapping on there and then choosing the new address you wanted to point to.
But actually, I don’t need to have a Work one on there at the moment, so let’s see what else we can add. And we can do that by swiping right the way across and pressing Add at the end here. Now, the clever thing is you can actually put any address that you visit, any location, as a frequently used place, and it will show up here in that Favourites bar. But another thing you could do is add some other shortcuts, for example, Public Transport.
So now, when I tap on Public Transport, my map is immediately going to change and show me all of the bus and train connections near me, wherever I am in the world.
That’s how you can customise the Favourites bar in the Maps app. But if you want to see some more cool things and useful features from your iPhone, please check out this QuickTip next.
