Description
Tired of digging through the second page of CarPlay to find your favourite apps? You can’t rearrange the icons on the car screen itself, but you can do it easily from your iPhone, whether it’s connected or not. I’ll show you how to put your most-used CarPlay apps right at the front and remove the ones you don’t need, though a few have to stay for CarPlay to work.

Whenever I’m in the car, I’ll plug my phone in to use CarPlay, and I’m always frustrated by how the app that I want is always on the second page, and I can never get to it easily. Well, actually, you can customise how the apps show up on CarPlay to put your most-used ones right at the front. Let me show you how.
And if you’re new around here, let me introduce myself quickly. Hi, I’m Jacob. I’m your friendly teacher, helping you make the most of your devices. If you want to subscribe, you’ll find loads more QuickTips to help you unlock new powers from your iPhone and iPad.
Okay, so when we’re using CarPlay, we have our grid of icons on the dashboard of our car, and we can’t really rearrange them in the car itself, but we can do that from our iPhone, wherever you’re connected at the time to CarPlay, or afterwards.
So, all we’re going to do is jump into the Settings app and tap onto General. Then, if your car is paired with CarPlay, you can scroll down, tap onto CarPlay, and then tap onto your car at this stage too. Now, we’re going to go onto the Apps option here, and then you’ll see a list of apps you can use in CarPlay. The order of the list on the screen matches the order they’ll show up on the dashboard in CarPlay. And we can use a little toggle on the right-hand side to drag and drop and rearrange apps to move them further up that list.
Of course, we can press the red delete button as well to remove apps. But you’ll notice that you can’t remove every app on there. Some have to be there for CarPlay to work.
By the time I’m finished, I can then customise my home screen. So rather than having two pages of apps, all the things that I need are just on one page, and then I can access them far quicker when I’m in my car.
