Description
Background noise and echo can ruin an otherwise great recording, but the new Studio Sound feature in iOS 27 makes your iPhone voice memos sound far clearer. I’ll show you how to switch it on in the Voice Memos app, adjust its strength with a simple slider, and turn it off whenever you like without changing your original recording. I’ll also explain what to use instead for older Mono or Stereo memos.

The Voice Memos app on your iPhone is a really convenient and quick way to get ideas out of your head and onto your phone. But up until now, the sound quality has never been completely great, if we’re being honest. It uses your iPhone microphone, and that isn’t always perfect. Well, now in iOS 27, Apple Intelligence gives Voice Memos a brand-new feature where you can automatically remove background noise and enhance your voice in just two taps. Let me show you how it works, because it’s brilliant.
And before I do that, if you’re new around here, then hi, my name is Jacob. I’m your friendly Apple expert here on YouTube to help you make the most of your devices by sharing lots of quick, bite-size tips just like this one. So, please do press subscribe, then you won’t miss any in the future.
Okay, enough about me. In the Voice Memos app, I’ve actually been recording the whole video up until this point, so I’m going to press stop on that. What I can then do is listen back to that voice recording as normal. But you might hear background noise. You might hear an echo. In fact, let’s press play and have a listen.
[Playback: “Now, the Voice Memos app on your iPhone is…”]
So, that’s completely unprocessed audio straight from my phone. The video that you’re watching right now has got far better audio, at least I hope it does. So, let’s try and make this voice note sound better. To do that, we’re going to tap on the Options button here, and then we’re simply going to tap on Studio Sound. You can also choose how much of the effect is applied. By default, it’s pretty much in the middle, at 50%, but you can make it more dramatic or less dramatic.
But now, if we have a listen to that same voice note:
[Playback: “The Voice Memos app on your iPhone is a really convenient and quick way…”]
You can hear the difference. Here it was before:
[Playback: “Well, now in iOS 27, Apple Intelligence gives Voice Memos a brand-new feature…”]
Pretty impressive for a built-in piece of software on your phone.
And you might not see that same Options button if you’re on your main list of voice memos, like I am now. But don’t panic. Tap on a memo, press the three dots, and then you can turn on Studio Sound from there as well.
