Over the years, more and more credit cards, debit cards, membership things, tickets – they’ve all been using the Apple Wallet app to store information and to make it really easy for you to access. But there are still going to be things that come on paper. Perhaps you’ve got a membership for a library or a gym, or a ticket to an event, and you want to put it in the Apple Wallet app. Well, up until now, you couldn’t. But that all changes in iOS 27, because we can now create our own custom passes using anything physical, or by typing in details ourselves. Let me show you how it works.

Okay, so I’ve got my physical ticket here, and I want to turn that into a wallet pass. So I’m going to open up the Apple Wallet app and then tap the plus button at the top. This is how we normally add credit cards, debit cards, transit cards, all those sort of things. But there’s now a new option there called Create a Pass. There are two different ways we can do this. We can do it automatically using the camera, or we can do it manually by typing in details. I’m going to show you both, and we’ll start off with automatic.

So, when I tap on to create here, all I have to do is line up my camera’s viewfinder with whatever the physical ticket is I’ve got in front of me. Your phone will then extract all the key details, whether it’s the barcode number, the QR code, your seats, anything that it might need, and it’ll turn it into a pass like this for you. It’ll style that pass automatically. And if you’re happy, you can add it straight to Wallet, or you can tap on to edit and you can change any of those fields. Everything here has been extracted from the photograph, but don’t worry, you can change things if you need to.

So the automatic mode is nice, but sometimes you might not have time to scan in. So let’s look at the manual method quickly as well. This time, when I create a pass, I’m going to go for the Membership option, but you can choose from three different starting points: a Standard pass where you can customise everything, a Membership, or an Event ticket. I’ll go for Membership.

And when you get onto this page, you can then customise everything about it. From the icon in the top left corner – you can tap on there and change it – to the colour palette itself in the bottom left. But whilst these visual tweaks look nice, we can also change all the information too. You can either tap onto a placeholder and start typing information in, or if you press the options button in the bottom corner, you can edit by removing or adding new placeholders anywhere you like. Let me remove this one a second. And then, if I tap into the empty box, you can see there are dozens of different choices here that I can use. I can tap onto one of these and it’ll add it onto the pass for me. And then when I’m finished, I can press the tick, and that will save it to my Wallet like any other pass on my phone.
