Here’s a quick guide to setting up a Sleep Timer on your iPhone, which means that any music or podcast you’re listening to will stop automatically when you go to sleep.

To get started, let’s jump into the Music app, and I’m going to play just a nice bit of calm background music. This method will work for podcasts and on Spotify – essentially, any audio you’re playing on your device.

Then, we’re going to exit the Music app and open the Clock app. In the Clock app, navigate to the bottom and tap on Timer on the far right-hand side. Here, you can set the timer for any length you prefer. If you’re heading to bed, you might set it for half an hour or 40 minutes. To demonstrate, I’m going to choose 20 seconds.

Now, for the really clever part…

Before starting the timer, tap where it says When Timer Ends. Rather than selecting an alert tone or an alarm, if we scroll right to the bottom, we can choose the Stop Playing option. This will turn off any audio playing on your device. Additionally, it will lock your iPhone and turn the screen off, which is super handy!

I’m going to start the timer now and exit the Clock app. It doesn’t matter what you’re doing on your phone, but to simulate night time, I’ll just lock my screen instead. Then, as the timer runs out, the music will stop as soon as it reaches zero. Just like this!

And that’s it, it’s incredibly easy to add a sleep timer to your device!
