Use Magic Edit in Canva to Transform Any Image

Imagine editing an image just by describing what you want, or even just saying it out loud. That's Canva's Magic Edit, and it's genuinely brilliant. In this guide I'll show you how to transform whole images or make small changes using nothing but a text prompt or the Dictate button. Tap your image, press Edit, choose Magic Edit, and describe your change, like making a cartoon graphic look photorealistic, or removing all the text from a poster in one go. I turn an AI-generated graphic into a polished, ready-to-use lesson resource in under two minutes. It's powered by Google's latest image model and works on iPad and iPhone. Step by Step
Tap the picture and press Edit
Open your design in Canva, tap onto the picture you want to change and press Edit.
Choose Magic Edit and describe your change
Choose Magic Edit. From here, you can type into that box, but I quite often find it easier just to press Dictate on the keyboard and then talk straight into Canva, for example "Let's turn this image into a more photorealistic version, keeping all the animals and text the same."
Let Canva analyse the image
Tap Edit and Canva is going to start analysing that image, with that blue bar going across. Before you know it, it's made that edit for you.
Close Magic Edit for full resolution
To begin with, it might look a little bit pixelated, but as soon as you close the Magic Edit screen, you then get the full resolution version of that image. It keeps all the key elements, but it doesn't look quite so cartoony anymore.
Go back in for smaller edits
Go back into Magic Edit and type in a smaller change, like "remove all text from this poster." Tap Edit and, just like that, it's gone.

The Magic Edit feature on Canva is absolutely brilliant. Not only can it transform entire images that you have in Canva, but you can also make subtle or small edits to pictures that you've got, simply by typing or talking into Canva.
So, I'm going to start off with this graphic that I've made using AI about the different layers of the rainforest for my class. I want to make it a little bit more realistic, while still keeping that kind of childlike playfulness to make sure the students are engaged.
So, I'm going to tap onto the picture and press Edit, and then we're going to choose Magic Edit. Now, from here, you can type into that box, but I quite often find it easier just to press Dictate on the keyboard and then talk straight into Canva.
