Description

Ever wanted to turn your dog, your coffee or your best mate into an emoji? In iOS 27 you can now start a Genmoji from a photo on your iPhone, right inside Messages. I’ll show you how to pick a picture, add a description to customise it, like a space fairy flying through the sky, and save it to your library to share anywhere. Just note it needs an Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhone.

Transcript

One of the fun little features that I like using when messaging people is Genmoji, because you can turn anything you like into your own custom emoji. But with iOS 27, this gets tons better, because now you can take a photograph and turn that into a Genmoji. Let me show you how it works. It’s great.

And before I do, if you’re new around here, then hi, my name is Jacob. I’m your friendly Apple expert here on YouTube to help you make the most of your devices. Tap that subscribe button and you won’t miss any in the future.

So, here I’ve got a photo that I took of a fairy in Sweden, and it’s a little bit of a random picture, but I wanted to use that fairy as an emoji in a message. And all I’m going to do is tap into the Messages thread that I’m using, and then tap the plus button on the left-hand side. From here, we’re looking for Genmoji on that list of Messages apps. And straight away, you’ll notice a new option here to add a photograph to start your Genmoji.

I’m going to tap onto here and choose the picture I just took of the fairy. We can add a description as well, so we could customise this. We could make it a space fairy flying through the sky. But I’m just going to type in “turn this fairy into a Genmoji.” And then when we press Go, it’s going to start working on that picture, and it’s going to use the source information to create a Genmoji. That should be more accurate than just typing in “make me a Genmoji of a fairy.” And of course, when it’s done, it’s then saved to your Messages library, and you can use it and share it wherever you like.

Before you go and do that though, make sure you check out this QuickTip next.
